Tools & Workspace

Tools

Beyond a typical set of typical workshop and woodworking tools, you do not need a long list of tools to build your van.

The typical tools i used the most were: screwdriver, plyers, socket set, saw, drill, sander, caulk gun, jig saw, measuring tape, level and razor blade.

Some specialty tools included: router, biscuit joiner, metal saw, Kreg pocket hole jig, wire stripper, wire crimper and a heat gun.

Workspace - Driveway

You don’t need to have an inside workshop or garage to build your van, although it would be very helpful.

I did my build during the winter, so I installed the diesel heater first so I had a warm van to work inside. An extension cord was all I needed for power.

I had a heated vest I wore when i worked on the outside of the van (solar, roof rack, windows etc)

WORKSPACE - Garage

You don’t need to have an inside workshop or garage to build your van, although it would be very helpful.

I was able to keep my garage heated as well.

I also utilized my basement (picture to left) when I needed constant warm temperatures for doing finishing work
